Director Chad Stahelski recently confirmed that Halle Berry, who starred in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, is interested in returning to the John Wick universe. Stahelski revealed that Berry has been in talks “several times” to try and return, possibly in a spinoff or “satellite” project. In a 2022 interview with IGN, Berry hinted at the possibility of a Sofia spinoff, saying “she might not be in John Wick, but she might be doing her own thingy-thingy.” Stahelski praised Berry’s dedication to physical training and staying in shape.
The Fate of John Wick Himself
At the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, it is unclear whether or not Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick survived. Stahelski revealed that the ending was intentionally ambiguous and that he and Reeves could potentially discuss making a fifth John Wick movie in the future. While a fifth movie is confirmed to be in development, Stahelski initially planned to film John Wick 4 and 5 back-to-back but decided against it, citing creative limitations.
Expansion of the John Wick Universe
In addition to the potential for a fifth movie and Halle Berry’s return, the John Wick universe is expanding with the release of the spinoff film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, and the upcoming TV series The Continental. Lionsgate is also considering a John Wick video game, with proposals already being fielded. The studio believes that there is “a big AAA game to be made out of John Wick” and sees a lot of excitement around the project.
As fans eagerly await the future of the John Wick universe, it is clear that there are many possibilities for the franchise. Whether it be through the return of beloved characters like Sofia or the exploration of new stories and mediums, the world of John Wick is expanding and evolving. The dedication of the cast and crew, as well as the excitement of fans, ensures that the franchise will continue to thrive and captivate audiences.
